Sarah Irene Murrah

August 1, 1926 — February 29, 2020

Sarah Irene Wood Murrah, 93-1/2, gained her wings and entered into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on February 29, 2020 at Sanctuary Hospice in Tupelo, MS with her family by her side. She was born August 1, 1926 in New Albany, MS to Leslie(Pappy) and Eunie Mae Pickens Wood. She graduated from Ingomar High School in 1944. She was married to Eric Sloan Murrah for 59 years before his death in 2006. Irene traveled with singing family far and wide to gospel singings and will always be noted to have the best tenor voice anywhere by her singing teacher grandfather, Walter Wood. She was a blessing to the Union County Health and Rehab Center as the "You are my Sunshine" and Goodnight Irene" Singer to all the patients and visitors. Irene will be missed by all. She worked at severals jobs in New Albany and Tupelo not to mention raising a family of 3 children whom she loved dearly. They are Carolyn Murrah, New Albany, Ann Wilemon Daniels(Warren), Tupelo, Tim Murrah(Tina), New Albany, two sisters, Etoye Wood Baker, Griffin, GA, and Jamie Wood Gunter(Jim), Tupelo, two brothers, Billy Wood, New Albany and Bobby Wood,(Janice), Nashville, TN. Grandchildren, Shonda Wilemon Sharpe(Tommy), Tupelo, Brent Hudspeth(Nicole), New Albany, Brian Hudspeth(Rose), Thompson Station, TN, Shea Wilemon, Tupelo, Brandon Hudspeth(Miele),Oxford, Jacob Murrah, New Albany. Great Grandchildren are, Caleb, Shelby, Joshua, Joseph and Sophie Hudspeth, Jason, Emma Kate and Gavin Houser, Step Grandchldren, Brandon, Joshua(Andrea) and Isabella Sharpe, Kelly Daniels Hutcheson(Chris). Step great grandchildren are Daniel, Lucy and Logan Hutcheson and Adalyn Sharpe. Irene was a member of Moss Hill Baptist Church at the time of her death. Before her failing health and inability to drive, she attended Myrtle Baptist Church where she participated in many Camp Zion meetings with the pastor of her heart, Bro. Percy Ray. Proceeding Irene in death were her parents, her husband and sister, Maxine Wood Eaker, her baby brother, Robert Edward Wood, a great grandson, Keith Martin, Jr. Sister-in-Law, Dorris Faye Wood and a brother-in-law, Lee E. Baker. Ministers will be Warren Daniels, Jim Gunter and Tim Murrah. Pall Bearers will be Brent Hudspeth, Brian Hudspeth, and Brandon Hudspeth, Jacob Murrah, Tommy Sharpe and Caleb Hudspeth. Honorary Pall Bearers will be Jason Houser, Gavin Houser, Joseph Hudspeth and Joshua Hudspeth. Visitation will held at Glenfield Funeral Home on March 1, 2020 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM Funeral will be held at Glenfield Funeral Home on March 2, 2020 at 2:00 PM. Glenfield Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements. Burial to be at Glenfield Memorial Park. The family request donations to be made to Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, MS or The Gideons.
