Waymon Douglas "Doug" Waits

Waymon Douglas "Doug" Waits, a dedicated carpenter for Waits Construction, has sadly passed away at the age of 65. He was born on June 6, 1958, at Baptist Memorial Hospital Union County in New Albany, MS. On July 8, 2023, Doug peacefully took his last breath at Resthaven Nursing Home.

Doug had a passion for country music and embodied the spirit of the genre. Anyone who knew and loved him understood that he lived his life with a genuine country charm. Additionally, he had a special fondness for the ladies, which endeared him to many. He was a member of Bethlehem Church in New Albany, MS. 

In addition to his love for music and people, Doug held various hobbies and interests close to his heart. He was an avid outdoorsman who found solace in fishing and drawing. He generously shared his talents by coaching softball at Ingomar. Another beloved hobby of Doug's was building birdhouses, showcasing his craftsmanship and love for carpentry. Furthermore, he took great pleasure in cattle ranching.

Doug leaves behind a cherished family and numerous friends who will forever hold him in their hearts. He is preceded in death by his sister Patricia Waits Hale and loving parents Waymon D Waits and Hermie Doris Sappington.

He is survived by Cherry Kelly, the mother of his children, who provided endless support throughout their journey together. His son Barry Waits (Jessica) and daughter Jessy Cobb (Rob) will forever carry on their father's legacy with love and pride.

Doug's memory will also be cherished by his caring sister Linda Gay Rooker (Don) as well as his grandchildren Grace Cobb Jones (Chandler), Elijah Cobb, Parker Reece Cobb, Kinzie Claire Waits, Barrett Clayton Waits, and Eleanor Shayne McCullough.

Additionally, Doug leaves behind nieces Melanie Sloan and nephews Nathan Hale and Ben Hale.

A visitation to honor Doug's life will be held on July 11, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Glenfield Funeral Home, located at 101 N. Denton Road, New Albany, MS, 38652.  Friends and family are invited to attend the graveside service at Glenfield Memorial Park on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.  Bro. Jeff Lawerence will be officiating the service. 

Doug Waits will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His warm heart, love for country music, and dedication to carpentry have left an enduring mark on those he leaves behind. 

In Lieu of flowers the family is requesting memorial donations in honor of Mr. Waits towards the Lupus Foundation of America inc. 2121 K Street NW, Suite 200 Washington, DC 20037. 

Glenfield Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements of Mr. Doug Waits.
