It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Lynn Pickens, who departed this life on November 13, 2025, just one day after celebrating his 74th birthday. Born on November 12, 1951, in Memphis, Tennessee, Richard was a beloved figure in his community, living most recently in Tupelo, Mississippi.
Richard dedicated a significant portion of his life to serving in law enforcement, displaying a steadfast commitment to protecting and serving the public. His career was not only a profession but a calling that he embraced with integrity and honor. In addition to his work as an officer, he contributed his skills to the Mississippi Gaming Commission and pursued his passion for gun smithing while remaining a supporter of Ole Miss sports.
Richard was a man of many interests and passions. He found joy in the great outdoors, relishing the opportunities to hunt and fish. His love for animals, particularly German Shepherds, further reflected his caring nature and deep-seated connections to his personal joys.
A devoted family man, Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Janet Pickens, and his children: son Bill Pickens (Kayla) and daughter Tessa Sharafat. He took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to Brody Pickens, Peyton Pickens, Marley Jo Pickens, Abdul-Raheem Khan, Nailah Khan, Abdul-Mamin Khan, Sakeena Muzher, and Sameeha Muzher, forging treasured memories that will be cherished by all.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Leonard Pickens and Jo Ellen Pickens.
As we remember Richard, we invite all friends and family to gather in celebration of his life. Visitation will be held on November 15, 2025, from 12:00 PM-2:00 pm at Glenfield Funeral Home, preceded by a funeral service beginning at 2:00 PM. Service will be officiated by Billy Shackelford.
In the spirit of reflection and remembrance, we hope to honor Richard's legacy of love, dedication, and community service. He will be dearly missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Glenfield Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the care and arrangements of Mr. Pickens.
