Hernando, Ms

Maryanne Whatley, aged 80, passed away peacefully into the arms of our Lord with her devoted husband at her side on April 20, 2023, at Desoto Healthcare Center. She was born on November 9, 1942, in Cotton Plant, MS, to the late Charlie and Ruth Bishop Hearn. She was the proud mother of two children, five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Maryanne graduated from Southside High School in Memphis.  She moved to California where she met and married the love of her life, Harvey.  They were married in Carmel, California on September 10, 1966, and raised their family in California living first in Hayward and then moving to their home in Fremont.  Upon their retirement they relocated to Hernando, MS.

Maryanne was a certified public accountant and was actively involved in the Alameda County South Chapter of the National Association of Accountants as a member and a President. She also earned her private pilot's license in 1981. In her free time, she enjoyed crochet and passed this lifelong hobby on to her grandchildren. She loved country music and of course Elvis Presley. Maryanne and Harvey enjoyed traveling all over the world.  Egypt was one of her favorite destinations, along with many European cities and Alaska. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Coldwater, MS.

Maryanne is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Harvey Whatley of Hernando, her sisters, Donna Hartsell of New Albany and Charlotte Brown (Carl) of Cordova, TN, her two sons, Chris Whatley (Tina) and Kevin Whatley (Christine), as well as her grandchildren, Stephanie Heinle (Jeff), Brittany Whatley, Annabelle Whatley, Cole Whatley, Kayla Whatley and her great-grandchild Connor Heinle. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
