Black
November 8, 1940 – February 4, 2026

A proud resident of New Albany, she embodied the vibrant spirit of her community. Betty's life was defined by her unwavering faith and love for reading her Bible, which was a guiding light throughout her journey. Her passion for the outdoors brought her joy, as did her delightful fascination with QVC, where she found treasures that always brought a smile.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Betty's life with visitation on Saturday, February 7, 2026, starting at 10:00 AM-12:00 PM at Glenfield Funeral Home in New Albany, MS. Celebration of Life service following at 12:00 PM in the Glenfield Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow in Glenfield Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Kemont Thornton, Terry Hogue Jr., Craig Spencer, Jake Norwood, Mike Briggs and Brayden Briggs. The service will be officiated by Bubba Childress.
She leaves behind a legacy of love as she is survived by her three devoted daughters, Lynn Cobb (late Mike Cobb), Shari Briggs (Jeff), and Janet Decanter (Kevin), who will forever hold her in their hearts. She is also survived by her siblings, James Medlin, Billy Wayne Medlin (Alyne) and Mary Ann Brown. Betty was also a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren: Terry Hogue Jr. (Ashley Herod), Lauren Spencer (Craig), Benjamin Briggs (Jamie), Allison Thornton (Kemont), Emily Briggs, Courtney Norwood (Jake), Sarah Black, and Lessie Jo Black. Alongside her grandchildren, Betty is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy.
Betty was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Joe Medlin Jr. and Jewel Medlin, her son Joseph Allen Black "Bud" and her husband Alvie Black Jr. In Lieu of flowers, the family is asking for memorials to be made in Mrs. Betty's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
