Erma Gaines Sanders

July 20, 1935 — January 8, 2018

Erma Sanders, 82, died Monday at her residence in Columbus.  She was born July 20, 1935, in Etta, Mississippi, the daughter of the late Roy O. and Ruth Hale Stinson Gaines.  Mrs. Sanders was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Columbus and was a retired real estate broker.  She was past president of the Republican Woman's Club, a member of the Pilot Club, and was a Meals on Wheels volunteer.    Funeral services will be on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at 10 A. M. at Glenfield Funeral Home in New Albany.  Visitation will be from 9 A.M. until service time on Tuesday.  Reverend John Daniels will officiate, with burial following in Glenfield Memorial Park.   Survivors include her husband, Gilbert Sanders, Jr.  of Columbus; daughters, Leigh Ann Connell (Earl) of Aberdeen, and Leslie Denton Weeks (Wyatt) of Winfield, Alabama; two step sons, Gilbert C. Sanders, III, of Navarre, Florida, and William S. Sanders of Belize; sister, Glenda S. Worley of Huntsville, Alabama; and five grandchildren, Emily Connell, Gilbert C. Sanders, IV, Alex Sanders, and Lauren and Elizabeth Sanders.  She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lee Denton, and her brother, Roy E. Gaines.
